YOUth
MATTERs Project
The
West and South Offaly Youth Project is a community-based youth initiative
funded by the Health Promotion Services of the Midland Health Board
and West Offaly Partnership. West Offaly Partnership facilitates the
daily management of the project. Some of the actions that the project
is currently undertaking include:
•
Supporting local communities to establish socially inclusive local community
based youth services.
• Schools projects including, Homework Clubs, Facilitation of
‘Future Education Options’ with Transition Year students
and training of Student Councils.
• Coordination of Youth Leaders Forum – Training, information
provision and networking opportunities for voluntary youth leaders in
the area.
• Maintaining the South and West Offaly Youth Forum and supporting
young people from the locality to participate in both the Dail na nOg
and the Offaly Comhairle na nOg.
• Summer Projects that include art camps, activity weeks and the
summer school of rock.
The project
currently targets young people in the 12–18 age group who:
• Do not have equal access to developmental, educational, recreational
and training opportunities.
• Live in communities where youth service provision is inadequate
• Are not engaging fully with the school system.
• May be in danger of leaving school early.
• Are existing early school leavers.
